Born at the ancient Kallukalam house in Chetipuzha, Changanacherry, K. J. Thomas's formative years were spent amidst the serene backwaters and intellectual environment of Central Kerala.

His pursuit of knowledge was marked by a series of distinguished institutions:

• St. George H S, Kothamangalam

• St. Berchmans H S and St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry

• St. Xaviers College, Calcutta (Kolkata)

This expansive educational background—from a respected regional college to one of India's foremost intellectual centers—shaped his perspective and fueled his passion for literature and culture.

 

Career and Transition to Authorship

 

Following his studies, Thomas embarked on a career in academia, serving as a respected college lecturer in various institutions across Malapuram and Ranni. His years in teaching honed his communication skills and provided him with a deep, observational insight into life, which he now channels into his works as Alakanandini.
